US holiday spending last year was 135 billion dollars. One in ten unwanted gifts will go to the landfill, and only one percent of the goods given on Christmas are even used one month later.
It's easy for us as Muslims to read these sobering statistics and get a sense of moral superiority, but that is not the correct attitude or approach we should take as Muslims. Allah tells us the stories of past nations and what happened with them as cautionary tales, not for us to gloat about our superiority.
